WHAT IS CBA? Concerned Bikers Association/ABATE of
North Carolina, Inc., is a non-profit corporation in the State of
North Carolina, formed by motorcycle riders, established to
accomplish the following goals: To form a united motorcycle rider's organization
both at the local as well as the state level. To promote fair motorcycle legislation and to insure
motorcyclists freedom by working to prevent enactment of and to work
to repeal unfair motorcycle legislation. To work toward the elimination of prejudicial
attitudes toward motorcyclists. To promote motorcycle education and rider training
programs, and public motorcycle awareness programs. To improve the public image of motorcycling by
participating in public service and charitable projects. To foster a sense of brotherhood, sisterhood and
cooperation between all motorcyclists. The Concerned Bikers Association was formed in 1971 by
a group of bikers in Charlotte, NC. A mandatory helmet law, which
was enacted in 1967, and the 1971 passage of a twenty-four hour
motorcycle headlight law made the motorcyclist suddenly aware that
there was no one in NC helping to protect their rights. The purpose
of CBA was and still is to promote fair motorcycle legislation and
to repeal existing unfair legislation. The group banded together to
help foster a sense of brotherhood and to improve the public image
of motorcyclists.
